I hope you all don’t mind a little change in pace for this week. As I’m in the busy final days of the semester, today I’m sharing some nice songs for your Tuesday evening listening pleasure.
Young in the City – Young in the City EP
Released today, Young in the City is the self-titled EP of singer-songwriter Noah Gundersen’s newest full band project. The band is made up of Gundersen and old friends Michael Porter, Jeremy Buller, and Keelan O’Hara. The songs have a heavier, electric guitar-driven sound that resembles Gundersen’s newer music. I’m loving the sound of this project so far. The EP is available for purchase on Bandcamp.
The Verve Pipe – “Overboard”
Released on their 2014 album of the same name, “Overboard” is a love story set in Michigan that takes a dark turn. The band co-wrote the track with actor Jeff Daniels. Its music video was filmed in Michigan and its wintry landscape adds to the song’s mood. It seems fitting for a cold, foggy late autumn evening like this one.
R.E.M. – “Me In Honey”
Michael Stipe of R.E.M. wrote “Me in Honey” as a response to the song “Eat For Two” by 10,000 Maniacs. The song features guest vocals from Kate Pierson of The B-52’s and according to Stipe, presents a male’s perspective on pregnancy (Songfacts). It’s one of my favorite songs on what may be my favorite R.E.M. album.
Happy listening!
