About the Site:
Once the personal blog of a twenty-something named Tori, Between the Notes has grown into an independent site containing music features, reviews, interviews, and essays. Based in Seattle, WA, the site focuses on the work of independent and emerging artists, as well as deep cuts from established artists.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Who runs this site?
A: The aforementioned Tori does. She loves rock music, playing guitar, baking and eating chocolate chip cookies, spending time outdoors, and creating written, musical, and visual art. She is happiest in the pit at a Pearl Jam show. If you’d like to know more about this super rad Tori chick, check out her website.
Q: How can I get my music featured on Between the Notes?
A: Submit your music on the Contact page. In your message, please include the following:
- The type of feature you’d like (short feature, album/song review, song/video premiere, interview, etc.)
- Link(s) to your music (YouTube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify, download, etc.)
- Links to your website and/or social media (optional)
- Link to high-resolution photo (optional, but preferred)
Please keep in mind that I receive lots of submissions so I cannot promise to feature everyone. I also work full-time, so please allow some time for replies.
Q: Why is this blog called Between the Notes?
A: It’s taken from a quote by the great violinist Isaac Stern:
“Music in essence is what is happening between the printed notes, not on the notes themselves… How in that milli-milli-millisecond of time in going from one note to another note do you do what you do? Instinctively, thoughtfully, with head, heart, taste, and talent.”
So, there you go. My goal is to make sure that everything on this blog is written “instinctively, thoughtfully, with head, heart, taste, and talent.”
Q: Why is there a Film Reviews section?
A: Before Between the Notes was an independent site, it was a personal blog dedicated to music and film. To avoid breaking links when I purchased the domain, I left the film-related posts up for your reading pleasure. However, film hasn’t completely disappeared from the site. I will occasionally write about films that center on music and/or artists.
Q: I’m a writer/music blogger, too. Can we become affiliates?
A: I’m totally open to that. Just send me a message!
Q: Does Between the Notes have social media channels?
A: There is a Facebook page. You can also tweet the site owner @toritwine.
